Mike Stanton went 3 for 5 and scored 2 runs in his Major League Debut for the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night. I shot this photo of Mike on Memorial Day of this year. I made it a point to drive to Jacksonville to see him play one more time. Glad I did!

Strasburg strikes out 14 for his first win!

I had the chance to shoot Stephen Strasburg in his first game in the Florida Instructional League for the Nationals on October 5th 2009. Watching his first start in the big leagues tonight made me want to go back and look at my images from that game. Looking back at it now I feel good about my decision to take the day off from work to shoot the game.

For the game Strasburg threw 94 pitches with 65 of them going for strikes. He also struck out every player in the starting lineup. Not a bad start.

Well I am writing the post that I wanted to put up last week today. It was quite an interesting week last week that had me in Lakeland on Wednesday and Saturday, Dunedin and Daytona on Sunday.

On Sunday I had quite an exhausting trip. For those of you who do not know Dunedin is on the west coast of Florida and is the spring training home for the Toronto Blue Jays. I live near Daytona on the east coast. I drove over in the morning to shoot the Dunedin Blue Jays and Bradenton Marauders game that started at 1:00. Jesse Litsch was doing his second rehab start for Dunedin before heading up to the Triple A level. I shot the game till about 2:30 and then booked it back to Daytona to catch the Daytona Cubs and St. Lucie Mets game in Daytona at 5:30.

Needless to say I did not stay at the game long in Daytona. I really only needed to go to the game to get one pitcher I needed for the Daytona Cubs set. I had not shot Dae-Eun Rhee of the yet during season. So I shot about 3 innings of the game and I headed home to start editing and tagging photos.

This coming weekend is shaping up to be as busy as this one but I am actually looking forward to it. I will be posting the shots soon.

Charlotte Stone Crabs Vs Lakeland Flying Tigers 5-11-2010

I drove to Lakeland on Tuesday night to shoot the Flying Tigers and Stone Crabs for the Florida State League. There are no actual photo pits to shoot from at the stadium, but you can get some excellent shots from both the 1st and 3rd base sides especially in the afternoons. Which to me makes it worth the dive through Orlando

I only stayed at the game for about an hour and then I had to drive home to be at work the next day. Before I left I did see something a little different than I normally see while shooting from the end of the Tigers dugout. One of the players from the Flying Tigers got my attention and pointed to one of his teammates. I was kind of unsure what he was pointing to at first. Then I fiquered it out. A Dragonfly was catching a ride on Flying Tigers left fielder Chao-Ting Tangs hat.

Everybody in the dugout got a good laugh and I took few shots which must made the Dragon fly lose interest in the hat because he flew over and landed on my camera for about an inning. I guess that is one way to get good seats.

Busy, Busy

I have been all over the state trying to finish up with the Florida State League and the Daytona Cubs card set. This past week I have been in Daytona, Port St. Lucie, and I was in Jupiter on Saturday night. Staring tomorrow I will be right back at it trying to finish up on the sets.

Front Row Joe’s 1000th Game

Front Row Joe at his 1000th consecutive Daytona Cubs home game

“Front Row Joe” Joe Rowe attended his 1000th consecutive home game tonight at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach. Joe has been coming to the Daytona Cubs home games since the teams inception in 1983. He started this streak of 1000 games in 1985 two years after the Chicago Cubs Advanced A team started in Daytona. Front Row Joe was honored at the game tonight with a pregame ceremony and the team wore Retro Jerseys from the 1985 season.

Front Row Joe was presented a new Daytona Beach Cubs jersey with the custom number of 1000 on the back and was recognized for his streak from the Daytona Beach Cubs Booster Club and from Team Owner Andy Rayburn. FRJ gave a short speech and threw out the first pitch and then went to his usual seat to cheer on the team for the evening.

While I was writing this post I was thinking back about how long I have personally known Joe and what I could share about him from my perspective. One thing that sticks out in my mind is that I have known Joe for 3 years now and we usually chat before each game. The funny thing is we rarely talk about baseball. He always takes that time to ask me about my family and how everything is going in my life. That is just how good of a person he is.

I have a few photos today from the game I shot on April 14th between the Daytona Cubs and the Dunedin Blue Jays. Dunedin scored 2 runs in the first and 3 in the second inning and never looked back winning the game 11-6 over the Cubs.

My next post should either be next Wednesday or Thursday and it should be an interesting one. Long time Daytona Cubs fan Front Row Joe will mark his 1000th consecutive game at the Jack. The Cubs will be wearing throwback jerseys from their first season to mark the occasion. I look forward to sharing my photos with everybody from the game.

Daytona Vs Brevard County April 11th

I drove down to Space Coast Stadium today to shoot the Daytona Cubs and Brevard County Manatees game. The weather was absolutely perfect for a baseball game and I was happy to have good conditions after the game last night.

The game had plenty of action and runs scored with the Cubs coming out on top 10-5 winning the second straight from Brevard after losing the first two games.

I guess it was D.J. LeMahieu day today on the blog, it seems like he was in the middle of everything that was happening.

I normally do not like to post photos like this because you can not see his face. But I do like how his bat broke and the ball and bat was still in the photo.

Well that is all for tonight I need to get back to tagging and uploading photos.

Opening Night

Last night was opening night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark (The Jack). The Cubs played the Brevard County Manatees in front of a crowd of 4,945 fans. Brevard won the game 7-0.

20100409.jpgThe weather was perfect for opening night and there was a large crowd on hand an hour before the game even started. It was good to see some of my good friends that I had not seen since last season and I am happy that baseball is back. I do not have a lot of time for this post today but I have uploaded a few photos from the game below.
